Scrap Management

MultiServ provides fully integrated systems for managing and optimising the process by which scrap is received, stocked and delivered to the furnace.  Each scrap management system is designed to meet the exact requirements of the client and tested using simulation models to ensure optimum efficiency. The MultiServ scrap management system can be customised to meet the specific needs of the smallest electric meltshops and the largest integrated meltshops.

Scrap management system using wireless networks at a 1.5mt stainless steel producer in Italy. High performance equilibrium cranes ensure low cost of delivery over the life of the contract. Modern crane cabs provide safe and ergonomic environment for operatives ensuring efficient working practice. Integrated scrap management system in the USA with real time feedback allows operator to accurately match basket chemistry to scrap recipe from the meltshop. Integrated scrap management service using chutes and self-elevating carriers to deliver scrap to an integrated steelworks in Australia.

Various methods are used to discharge scrap arriving by road, rail or barge and collect internally arising scrap. Accurate weighing systems ensure baskets and chutes are loaded in accordance with the menus received electronically from the meltshop.

Specialised carriers transport loaded scrap baskets to the furnace enabling scrap yards to be separate from the meltshop. A sophisticated software programme co-ordinates all fixed and mobile elements in the scrap management operation via a wireless communications network that delivers fast and secure data transmission.

Transporting a 150 tonne scrap basket from scrap yard to meltshop using self elevating carrier. One of two equilibrium cranes delivering 1.5mt of scrap per year for an EAF-based steelmaker in Thailand. Mobile material handler filling 90 tonne scrap basket for a stainless steel producer in the UK. Unloading scrap arriving by ocean-going barge using portal cranes for an EAF-based steelmaker in Spain.

The flexibility of the integrated scrap management system allows rapid changes in melt programmes while ensuring timely basket delivery.  The accuracy of the system enables steelmakers to reduce secondary metallurgy costs by ensuring the correct blend of scrap is used and to apply least cost scrap menus.

Revert scrap is collected from arising points and transported to the scrap yard or processed to meet furnace charge specification.
