MultiServ operates over 150 specialised carriers transporting
molten slag in pots ranging from 6m3 to
35m3. MultiServ ensures all slag
handling operations are safe and efficient. All
hot work equipment owned and operated by MultiServ is fitted with a
liquid-based fire suppression system which helps to protect the
operator from heat and fumes if a fire
occurs.
Maximising the working life of slag pots is becoming
increasingly important. Slag pots are cycled to
optimise thermal loading. Cold graded slag is
added and pots are sprayed with special agents to help prevent
stickers and reduce the need for knocking.
Liquid slag is tipped into purpose designed slag pits and
cooled under carefully controlled conditions.
Slag is then processed to recover the metallic content for re-use
by the client. De-metallised slag is weathered,
crushed and screened into various sized products for sale by
MultiServ or the client.
Developments in slag handling include rapid cooling,
granulation and atomisation of slag, allowing the production of
higher value products, and the stabilisation of falling stainless
steel slags to reduce environmental issues.
