Focus on Safety Training
MultiServ decided at the outset that it would use visual media
to train and instruct employees and contractors on their safety
requirements, standards and expectations. To this end MultiServ
have invested a lot of time and effort in developing essential
industry specific safety videos, three of which have won
international awards.

- SafeGuard describes the principles of MultiServ's safety programme and outlines some of the hazards present on our operating sites and steps that can be taken to minimise the risk these hazards present

Pre-Shift
Inspection
- MultiServ requires that a pre-shift inspection is carried out
on all its mobile equipment and process plants prior to the
commencement of each shift. The Pre-Shift Inspection video details
the why and how of pre-shift inspection

Fire Safety on
Vehicles
- Transporting liquid slag and steel on wheeled vehicles i.e. slag pot carriers and ladle carriers, exposes the operator and the vehicle to potential spillage, radiated heat and fire
- In 2001 MultiServ was unhappy with the dry powder extinguishers on its vehicles and developed a liquid fire suppression system with Kidde plc for installation on all MultiServ hot work activities
- MultiServ developed a video "Activate & Escape" to train
all hot work operators in why, what and how to use the system

Process Plant Safety - It
Bites!
- With more than 200 Process Plants in MultiServ, the potential for injury from rotating parts is high
- MultiServ developed and launched in 2005 their own
Process Plant Safety video called It Bites! the video depicts in
detail the hazards involved in operating Process Plants, the
absolute importance of the need for effective lock out and uses
Corporate Memory to good effect

Safety Behaviour
Programme
- SafeSteel (Safe Action for Everyone Working in the Steel Industry) is a safety behaviour and observation training programme designed specifically for the steel industry
- In addition to the SafeSteel video and training programme, MultiServ has developed a series of SafeSteel ToolBox talks to ensure SafeSteel is an ongoing programme
